Kamisama Kissrevolves around Nanami, an ordinary high school girl who suddenly finds herself homeless due to her father's gambling debts. One day, she helps a strange man in the park, who offers her his house in gratitude. To her surprise, the house turns out to be an old, dilapidated shrine. There, Nanami discovers that she has unexpectedly been appointed as the shrine's new goddess, complete with supernatural responsibilities and magical powers.
She receives help (and sometimes opposition) from Tomoe, a gruff but powerful fox demon who becomes her guardian spirit. Together with other special inhabitants of the shrine, Nanami learns to deal with her new tasks and the magical world full of spirits and gods. As she tries to find her place, special bonds are formed and she experiences funny, exciting and sometimes touching adventures.
