Gridman Universetakes place one year after the events ofSSSS.Gridmanoff, in a world that has seemingly come to rest. Only Rikka and Utsumi remember the previous battle against the kaiju, Gridman and Akane Shinjou; even Yūta, once Gridman's human host, has lost his memories of this crucial period. As Yūta struggles with his identity and feelings for Rikka, the peace is shattered by the sudden attack of a new kaiju. This forces Yūta to merge with Gridman once more, taking on the role of hero in the hopes of proving himself and regaining his own worth.
The situation becomes even more complex when an unknown phenomenon blurs the boundaries between universes, causing characters fromSSSS.Dynazenoninto Yūta's world. Together with old and new allies, they must not only face the threat of multiple kaiju, but also unravel the underlying cause of their overlapping realities. As the group fights to save their worlds, they face challenges of personal growth, friendship, and letting go of the past. Ultimately, the film is as much about spectacular battles as it is about the emotional development of its protagonists, with teamwork and self-acceptance at its core.
