Inuyashatells the story of Kagome Higurashi, a modern Japanese schoolgirl who is mysteriously transported back to feudal Japan. There she meets Inuyasha, a half-demon with a rough character and a tragic past. Together they become embroiled in a quest for the Shikon Jewel, a magical gem that has been broken into pieces and scattered across the land. This jewel grants enormous powers to whoever possesses it, causing countless demons and humans to hunt for it.
Along their journey, they are joined by several colorful companions, including the clever monk Miroku, the brave demon hunter Sango, and the mischievous fox demon Shippo. As they attempt to collect the shards of the jewel, they face dangerous enemies and dark secrets from Inuyasha and Kagome's past.
