Girls Band Cryfollows the story of Nina Iseri, a 17-year-old girl who leaves her home and high school to escape the bullying and strict control of her family. She moves to the big city (Kawasaki, near Tokyo) with the aim of building her own life and proving that she can be independent. In her search for a place where she can feel at home, she meets Momoka Kawaragi, a former guitarist and singer of the famous band Diamond Dust, whose music has always been a source of strength to Nina in difficult times.
Together, Nina and Momoka decide to start a new band. They are soon joined by Subaru, who prefers to make music rather than follow the acting path of her famous family, and by Rupa and Tomo, two talented musicians with their own challenges and character traits. Despite their different backgrounds and personal problems, the girls share a deep passion for music and a desire to belong.
Through the power of their music, they try to overcome their pain, loneliness and insecurities. Their band becomes an outlet for their emotions and a means to prove themselves to the world and to the people who once rejected them. But the road to success is not easy: internal conflicts, personal traumas and the harsh reality of the music industry provide the necessary challenges.
