Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood follows brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, who lose their mother to illness at a young age. In their grief, they attempt to bring her back using alchemy—a powerful system that can transmute matter. This forbidden attempt fails disastrously, however: Alphonse loses his entire body, while Edward sacrifices a leg and then an arm to bind his brother's soul to a suit of armor.
Determined to restore their bodies, the brothers travel across the land of Amestris in search of the mythical Philosopher’s Stone, which promises to break the boundaries of alchemy. Edward becomes a “State Alchemist” and is given the nickname “Fullmetal Alchemist,” giving him access to the military’s resources. During their quest, the brothers are entangled in political intrigue, dark government secrets, and the true nature of the Philosopher’s Stone. They encounter allies and enemies, including fellow alchemists, the mysterious homunculi, and figures from their own past.
Combining action, adventure, and philosophical themes, the series explores the price of ambition, guilt, and the power of brotherly love. As Edward and Alphonse pursue their personal mission, they discover that their quest is intertwined with the fate of their country and the deeper mysteries of their world.
